Judith A., Swack, Ph.D., president of Healing from the Body Level Up, details successful treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder in just a few sessions in a paper published in the International Journal of Healing & Caring - Online..

The September issue of the International Journal of Healing & Caring ? Online has published a major paper outlining effective treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder in both civilians and veterans. The paper, researched and written by Judith A. Swack, Ph,D, president of Healing from the Body Level Up, in Needham, Massachusetts, details the successful treatment of three women: a civilian nurse, a civilian artist and an Iraq War veteran in just one to six sessions.
All three demonstrated ?complete and lasting recovery from PTSD,? Dr. Swack writes.
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a serious problem in the United States, Dr Swack writes, citing the U.S. National Comorbidity Replication Survey, which estimates that 6.8 percent of adults suffer from the condition and that women are more than twice as likely as men to experience it at some point in their lives.
The cost to both individuals and society is very high. The Congressional Budget Office estimated that the Veterans Administration spent $2 billion in fiscal year 2010 to provide medical care to recent combat veterans. The cost for those who receive no treatment or inadequate care is even higher. The U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs' website lists disability payments for those 100 percent disabled at $2,769 per month. Assuming an additional 50 years of life, this could mean payments totaling $1.66 million, without adjusting for inflation.
Energy psychology methods, such as Healing from the Body Level Up (HBLU?), have been found effective for rapidly treating a number of traumas. Whether it's caused by loss, violence, physical injury, or illness, trauma is the most common difficulty people encounter.
Dr. Swack, the originator of HBLU methodology, developed a novel process for eliminating PTSD symptoms by treating what she calls History Trauma, that is, the traumatic reaction people have to even thinking about a particular aspect of their history.
Dr. Swack discovered that History Trauma is caused by a series of related traumatic experiences that build up in the body as accumulated stress until the nervous system can no longer cope. In that moment, the unconscious mind blocks the memory of that entire stretch of history.
One of the difficulties of treating people with severe trauma is the possibility of retraumatizing them when they are required to recall extremely painful incidents, Dr. Swack notes. The History Trauma protocol treats the part of the individual that blocked these memories, which then typically clears itself without the patient being required to consciously access the actual memories.
The three women in the study were tested before and twice after treatment through well-validated psychological instruments and assessments.
?All three patients demonstrated remarkable recovery from PTSD with post-test and follow-up scores far below the normal means,? Dr. Swack writes.
While recommending further testing of the History Trauma protocol among larger populations, Dr. Swack notes that ?this study demonstrates the efficacy of HBLU as a brief therapy approach? to treating PTSD and other physical, behavioral and psychiatric symptoms.
